Press On

The apostle Paul said in Philippians 3:12-14:

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

We are called to press on to what God has called us to and that is to glorify Him and to lead others to Him. Notice Paul said that he strained towards what was ahead. To strain indicates that it is not an easy stride or walk, but a strain. The Christian life is not easy. There are temptations and hidden snares from our enemy the devil, there is the lust of the flesh, and the love of the world that tries to tempt us and bring us down. Paul was pressed but he was not crushed, he pressed on.

What about you right now? Are you going to press on even when it is hard? Are you willing to strain toward what is ahead even if everybody else says or does otherwise? Paul was focused. He was determined to not let anything, or anyone stand in his way of pressing on toward the goal. We live in a day of distractions. There is always something trying to compete for our time and attention so we do not turn to God as we should. Satan wants us distracted because he knows that if we are distracted, we are not focused on pressing on toward the prize. Let us remain focused and determined as Paul was even in this great day of distractions and let us run the race that God has marked out for us to run. Press on my brother! Press on my sister! Have a blessed day!
